Our Work
Schools communities from around the world have worked with ReGEN to co-create major changes within their school community.
This work includes everything from:
- a school in Denver, CO in which K-8 students, educators, and parents/caregivers worked together to design their full school curriculum,
- a school in Lille, France, in which the school made changes to their assessments, physical school space, phone policy, schedule, and pedagogical practices to deeply improve the school’s climate of trust and respect
- a school in Kampala, Uganda, designed by refugees as a vocational school with wraparound services for working mothers
School or Program Creation
Schools work best when they meet the learning needs of their local community. We have helped students, educators, and families design or redesign major elements of their school, such as:
- the entire school, in communities which did not currently have a school focused on that community’s needs
- the scope and sequence of their curriculum
- the full schedule, including internships and work placement programs
- a particular diploma program
- qualitative or quantitative evaluation and assessment tools
System Redesign
Previous school communities have worked with our team members for 3 to 5 school years to redesign systems in their school to meet a outcome chosen by the school community, such as:
- increasing student sense of purpose
- improving trust and respect
- decreasing bullying targeted at a particular portion of the community
- improving adult empathy of student challenges and needs
Strategic Plan Development
We have visited with, interviewed, and analyzed feedback from constituencies within a school community – students, educators, parents/caregivers, unions, government officials – in order to:
- Determine a school’s position on an upcoming ballot question
- Understand failed policy changes and revise the policy to move forward with community support
- Co-create a strategic plan for a school network
Professional Development
Much of our work requires educator ideas and support to come to fruition. We give professional development on topics ranging from:
- curriculum development
- using a newly designed evaluation or assessment system
- strategies to support your community in increasing belonging
- strategies to increase empathy (including in service learning projects, in curriculum design, and in parent engagement)
- strategies to increase student agency
